Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian martial art that combines dance, music, percussion, song, self-defense technique and acrobatics. Capoeira was developed as a result of over three hundred years of slavery in Brazil; born as an expression of resistance as well as a method of emotional empowerment. Through music and song slaves were able to conceal the combative purpose of Capoeira while simultaneously illustrating the strength and beauty of cultural sharing.
True to its historical roots, Capoiera today is a means of empowerment for its practitioners and a forum for social and cultural exchange.
Born in Salvador, Bahia, Instructor Scud began training in Capoeira at the age of twelve with Mestrando Sabiá and Ginga Mundo. In 2000 Instructor Scud brought the traditions of Ginga Mundo to Atlanta as their representative here. He is also the husband of Jordana and the proud father of Amanda and Anna Victoria.
