Best Dance-community Response To Hurricane Katrina: Moving Forward

Dancers are plenty familiar with people not eating, but this time they danced to fill others’ tummies. Pamela Dionne’s CityDance Ensemble brought together nine Atlanta companies for MOVING FORWARD, a dance festival to benefit Second Harvest’s efforts to feed the survivors of Hurricane Katrina. It was a great cause and a great show, too.

  • Dean Hesse has released the photographs from our Rialto Center, May 21st performance.  Go to www.dhpix.exposuremanager.com/g/ to view his lovely photographs.

  • CONGRATULATIONS DANCERS, CHOREOGRAPHERS AND TEACHERS ON A WONDERFUL PERFORMANCE.  This year’s presentation of CityDance Ensemble at the Rialto Center for the Performing Arts was a truly uplifting and inspiring presentation.  Everyone shined. From the joyful jazzers and beautiful ballerinas to the living sculpture of the hand balancers to the amazing high energy modern dancers. We heard immediately after the performance that Katherine Dunham, the legendary dance and cultural figure whose piece “Progressions” was lovingly reproduced by our own Saroya Corbett for Sunday’s presentation, passed away in New York virtually at the same time as our performance.  What a fitting tribute. CityDance Ensemble is honored to have provided it.  To read more about Katherine Dunham and her important contribution go to  www.eslarp.uiuc.edu/kdunham

  • Studio Dionne is proud to announce the expansion of our Capoeira program to include children.  We will be offering a children’s Capoeira Camp June 5-9th. Click here for further information. We will also be offering Children’s Capoeira on our regular schedule beginning in our Fall session which starts August 14th.
